Bass
Family BBQ Sauce
Well, then, what
can I say, we love barbecue (BBQ, barbeque, bar-b-que)! I travel a lot around the country and get to
sample different food in different places and BBQ is definitely different from
region to region. I tend to like a
combination of vinegar and tomato based sauces, so that’s what ours is. We like to smoke ribs (which is another
recipe for later) and like them dry or wet.
We also do pulled pork, check and beef (all for another time) and we use
the same recipe for the sauce for all of it.
The only real variation is the heat and sweet that gets added (for the
kids in mind). There are a thousand
different ways of doing these types of sauces, this is one that we’ve settled
on that we like a lot! There are a lot
of ingredients, but that’s typical of BBQ sauces. I hope you enjoy!

Instructions:
Step 1: Prep!
I like to get everything prepared first, before starting to cook this...it will go a lot smoother!
The vegetables:
The garlic...
The onion...
The shallot....
The chipotle...
the dry ingredients:
I like to combine everything into a couple cups...
The wet ingredients:
I like to combine everything, except the wine & water into a single cup...
All together now! And we're ready...the wine and water are not shown here...I pour in the wine straight to the pot and I use the water to get the last of the wet ingredients our of the cup.
Step 2: Cooking
Add the olive oil into a medium sized pot (8 quart or so) over
medium high heat.
Add the vegetables and
sauté until the onions are translucent.
Add all the other ingredients into the pot. Pour in the wine and use a cup of water in
the wet ingredient cup to rinse the leftover ingredients into the pot.
Reduce the heat to medium low and cook for 30
minutes. If it gets too thick, add some
additional water to thin the sauce.
Remove from heat and let cool.
Take the sauce and add it to a blender…you may have to do
this is stages. Puree the sauce until
smooth.
Step 4: Enjoy
This sauce is great on ribs, pulled pork, chicken and whatever
you enjoy BBQ sauce on. This should last in the refrigerator for a
couple weeks. For the recipe "card"...go here.
